Captain Britain Omnibus
About this deal
I thought it was pretty decent. But, I'm hesitant to say it's a must buy. I think modern readers without a taste for the older stuff would like this better than the original material. But, will still find it a bit old fashioned. Most comics books are released 2 weeks earlier in Direct Market ( specialized comic stores) than in general bookstores.

Merlyn began safeguarding the total of all universes in existence when he established himself as Omniversal Guardian and founded the Corps. He later went mad and his daughter usurped his position. Once Friedrich finished up in #36 is coasts a little, whilst the CB strip was absorbed into the Super Spider-Man comic (becoming Super Spider-Man and Captain Britain #231 after CB #39) before taking a turn for the boring when Stan's brother Larry takes up the writing. Buscema is long gone on art by this point and it's no big surprise and somewhat of a relief when it ends in #242.

Brian was later featured as the team leader of New Excalibur in 2005, culminating with the X-Men: Die by the Sword limited series. Following the Secret Invasion crossover, Brian headlined the 2008 series Captain Britain and MI: 13, written by Paul Cornell, which included some characters from New Excalibur, as well as members of MI: 13 who appeared in Cornell's Wisdom limited series. The character later appeared as a regular character in the 2010-2013 Secret Avengers series, from issue #22 (April 2012) through its final issue #37 (March 2013), reappearing with the Avengers as a part of the Time Runs Out storyline. She was a prisoner in the Starlight Citadel before becoming Franklin Richards' nanny on Earth-616 as well as a spy for Roma. Some later iterations seem to avoid 'politics' by emphasising the magical elements of his origin story although he subsequently gets integrated into the Avengers' story lines and is certainly not allowed to die off as an integral character although never again one of the top-liners.That lasts for 14 issues, and the series pretty much wraps up here. The post-Moore stories aren’t as tightly woven as Moore’s run, but they’re still well worth reading. Mighty World of Marvel #14 introduces Meggan, who Excalibur readers are surely familiar with, and I found issue #4 of Captain Britain (titled “Sid’s Story”) to be a personal highlight of the latter portion of the series.

In 2006, Panini UK (who had already reprinted some of the Captain's adventures in their revived version of Mighty World of Marvel) began a series of collected editions reprinting all of the Captain's UK-published adventures in sequence for the first time, five volumes in all: Captain Britain: Birth of a Legend (2006), Captain Britain: A Hero Reborn (2007), Captain Britain: The Lion & the Spider (2009), Captain Britain: The Siege of Camelot (2010) and Captain Britain: Endgame (2011). Two oversized hardcover collections for the American market followed, using the titles of the first and fourth collected editions. The 21st issue of The Classic Marvel Figurine Collection magazine was also devoted to Captain Britain, and included a metal figurine of him in his Alan Davis-created second costume. A Captain Britain Omnibus published in 2009 reprinted every Captain Britain story from 1981-1986 plus a variety of extra material in a huge hardcover volume, and in October 2016, Captain Britain: Legacy of a Legend reprinted selected strips from 1976-1986 as a celebration of forty years of the Captain. Captain Britain’s serial is then moved from Marvel Super-Heroes into a new magazine called The Daredevils, and Alan Moore takes over as the writer at this point. Moore’s run is incredible, and it takes a lot of previous elements of the Captain Britain mythos and works them into some genuinely great storytelling. Prepare to rethink Jim Jaspers, Slaymaster, and even that goofy computer that showed up in the original run.

Thankfully, Marvel has made all of this so much easier to collect and read with an expanded version of the Captain Britain omnibus, released in 2022. This includes absolutely everything that’s collected roughshod in all of those other books I mentioned earlier (with one exception, which I’ll talk about in the next section). I think sometimes when we really love a character or team we are a little more forgiving for their older stuff that was writte..."
